Isto independe do tipo de modal utilizado ,estima-se que 60% dos custos logísticos sejam da área de transportes.Com o crescimento mundial do setor industrial e a expansão do comércio varejista com o surgimento do e-commerce, surgiu a necessidade de repensar os modais de transporte de cargas quer sejam rodoviários, ferroviários , aéreos, aquaviários ou dutoviários com o objetivo de reduzir os custos logísticos e alcançar a excelência na distribuição dos produtos e insumos com maior agilidade, eficiência e segurança .O resultado destas ações é a transmissão de maior confiabilidade dos clientes e a valorização das empresas e marcas. Mesmo com o surgimento das tecnologias modernas, que permitem o acompanhamento da operação de transporte em tempo real, a utilização do modal correto é fundamental para alcançar o objetivo logístico, produto certo, na quantidade certa, na hora certa no lugar certo ao menor custo logístico.
