| Abstract: | A crescente produção e uso de plásticos têm intensificado impactos ambientais
The growing production and use of plastics have intensified significant environmental impacts, especially due to the persistence of synthetic polymers such as High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Polystyrene (PS), which are characterized by chemical resistance and low biodegradability. In this context, environmental biotechnology has sought sustainable alternatives, highlighting mycoremediation by ligninolytic fungi, particularly species of the Pleurotus genus, such as P. ostreatus and P. djamor, recognized for their ability to degrade recalcitrant compounds through extracellular enzymes. The study holds scientific and social relevance by integrating knowledge from microbiology, polymer chemistry, and biotechnology, contributing to the development of bioremediation technologies and the promotion of a circular economy. The research, applied in nature and qualitative in approach, conducted a literature review on the degradative potential of these fungi toward HDPE and PS, analyzing their physicochemical characteristics, fungal degradation mechanisms, the role of lignocellulosic residues in enzymatic induction, and the feasibility of mycoremediation in mitigating plastic pollution. Data were collected from scientific databases between 2010 and 2025 and analyzed comparatively, allowing for the identification of convergences regarding enzymatic action and the biotechnological potential of the studied species. |
