The Eucalyptus cultivation, like any other culture can be affected by climatic factors. One of the main factors limiting the productivity is the insufficient amount of water, called stress by water deficit. Studies in forest improvement area must consider species and also provenances within species, since it is known that a single species can be found in different locations with different climates, and can then have differentiated responses when introduced in another environment. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of seedlings of different species, provenances and hybrids of Eucalyptus submitted to water deficit, targeting the recommendation for planting in dry regions of Brazil. Sixteen species/provenances/hybrids of Eucalyptus cultivated in greenhouse were studied, under two water regimes. Physiological characteristics (photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration, and water use efficiency) and biometric characteristics (height, stem diameter, leaf area, number of leaves and dry mass of leaves, of stem and roots) were evaluated. At the end of the experiment, it was observed that no species, provenance or hybrids stood out as tolerant or resistant to water stress. All species/hybrids/provenances were negatively affected by hydric deficiency, regardless the origin.
