embora inicialmente apresentassem desenvolvimento normal, as plantas expostas
This study evaluated the application of phytoremediation for treating swine wastewater using the aquatic species Eichhornia crassipes (water hyacinth) and Pistia stratiotes (water lettuce). The research was motivated by the need for sustainable and low-cost alternatives capable of reducing the high organic load present in this type of effluent, which can cause severe environmental impacts when improperly discharged. The experiment was carried out in four aquariums: two filled with clean water and two with swine effluent collected at ETEC Dr. Luiz César Couto. The plants were monitored for approximately one month, with records of morphological alterations, stress indicators, and changes in water appearance. The results showed that, although both species initially displayed normal development, the plants exposed to the effluent experienced whitening, wilting, and death in less than fifteen days, while those kept in clean water remained healthy. Despite the early mortality, a reduction in turbidity and an increase in light penetration were observed in the treated water, indicating partial phytoremediation activity before plant collapse. It is concluded that the effluent presented an organic load above the tolerance limits of the species, highlighting the need for pre-treatment or hybrid systems to enhance the effectiveness of this technique. |
