O ouro verde aos cafés especiais: a trajetória do café, seu contexto histórico e atual consumo em Marília (SP)

Abstract

O estudo aborda o cenário do consumo de cafés especiais na cidade de Marília-SP, relacionando-a ao contexto histórico da cafeicultura na região e às movimentações econômicas recentes. A cidade, fundada durante o auge do ciclo do café, teve seu crescimento diretamente relacionado à expansão da cafeicultura no interior paulista. O café, elemento central em sua formação econômica e social, ainda se faz presente na cidade, agora na valorização dos cafés especiais. Com o objetivo de analisar o consumo desses cafés em Marília, através de uma pesquisa de campo nas cafeterias da cidade, após uma contextualização histórica e refletindo sobre o impacto das recentes elevações de preços no cenário local, foi possível observar de forma clara as oportunidades de desenvolvimento no mercado local, indicando caminhos promissores para a qualificação do setor e a consolidação do consumo de cafés especiais na região.

ABSTRACT: The study explores the landscape of specialty coffee consumption in the city of Marília- SP, linking it to the historical context of coffee cultivation in the region and recent economic developments. Founded during the height of the coffee cycle, the city's growth was directly tied to the expansion of coffee farming in the interior of São Paulo. Coffee, a central element in Marília’s economic and social formation, remains present today—now through the appreciation of specialty coffees. Aiming to analyze the consumption of these coffees in Marília, the study conducted field research in local coffee shops, following a historical contextualization and reflecting on the impact of recent price increases in the local market. The findings clearly reveal opportunities for development in the local coffee sector, pointing to promising paths for its professionalization and the consolidation of specialty coffee consumption in the region.
