Este trabalho analisa a importância da Educação Ambiental no ambiente escolar, destacando práticas sustentáveis como ferramentas essenciais para a formação de cidadãos conscientes e responsáveis. A Educação Ambiental promove a construção de valores, conhecimentos e competências voltadas para a conservação do meio ambiente, fundamental para a qualidade de vida e a sustentabilidade. Historicamente, a preocupação ambiental começou a emergir com a Revolução Industrial e se consolidou nas décadas de 1960 e 1970, impulsionada por obras como "Primavera Silenciosa" de Rachel Carson. A partir da década de 1980, iniciativas como o Relatório Brundtland e a Agenda 21 integraram a Educação Ambiental ao desenvolvimento sustentável, abordando questões sociais e econômicas. Na educação atual, a interdisciplinaridade da Educação Ambiental é crucial, promovendo uma conscientização que transcende a escola e alcança comunidades. Especialistas ressaltam sua natureza transversal, necessitando que professores se atualizem continuamente para atender às demandas sociais. A Educação Ambiental transforma a relação dos indivíduos com o meio ambiente, estimulando a formação de comportamentos e atitudes sustentáveis. Esse aprendizado é vital desde os primeiros anos de escolarização, pois crianças bem informadas tornam-se adultas mais comprometidas com questões ambientais. Os educadores atuam como mediadores, facilitando a construção de conhecimentos críticos e instigando a reflexão sobre a diversidade e a preservação do meio ambiente. Assim, a Educação Ambiental não apenas melhora a qualidade de vida, mas também prepara uma nova geração capaz de enfrentar desafios ambientais futuros, promovendo soluções inovadoras e sustentáveis.

Historically, environmental concerns began to emerge with the Industrial Revolution and were consolidated in the 1960s and 1970s, driven by works such as "Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson. From the 1980s onward, initiatives like the Brundtland Report and Agenda 21 integrated Environmental Education into sustainable development, addressing social and economic issues. In today's education, the interdisciplinarity of Environmental Education is crucial, fostering awareness that transcends the school and reaches communities. Experts emphasize its transversal nature, necessitating that teachers continually update their knowledge to meet social demands. Environmental Education transforms individuals' relationships with the environment, encouraging the development of sustainable behaviors and attitudes. This learning is vital from the early years of schooling, as well-informed children grow into adults who are more committed to environmental issues. Educators act as mediators, facilitating the construction of critical knowledge and stimulating reflection on diversity and environmental preservation. Thus, Environmental Education not only improves quality of life but also prepares a new generation capable of facing future environmental challenges, promoting innovative and sustainable solutions.
