SIG's - Sistema de Informações Geográficas

Abstract

SIG's - Sistemas de informações Geográficas - são aplicações computacionais capazes de coletar, armazenar, processar e analisar informações georreferenciadas. A utilização de SIG's vem crescendo rapidamente em todo o mundo nos últimos anos devido a evolução tecnológica de hardwares na ultima década aliada ao grande universo de aplicação desses sistemas. As características geográficas faz com que os SIG's sejam intimamente ligados à conceitos cartográficos, como topografia, sistemas de coordenadas, projeções cartográficas e etc. Para tratar essas situações , são dotados de estruturas de dados especiais, sistema de análises geográficas e modelagem de dados especifico para cada universos de aplicações. A arquitetura pode variar desde sistemas antigos, portáveis em ambientes de alta plataforma até sistemas desktops, via Internet e distribuídos.

GIS - Geographic information Systems - is computational applications capable to collect, to store, to process and to analyze geo-referenced information. The use of GIS is growing quickly in the whole world in the last years due the technological evolution of hardware in the last decade allied with the great universe of application of these systems. The geographic characteristics become the GIS associated with the cartographic concepts, as topography, systems of coordinates, cartographic projections and etc. To treat these situations, they are endowed with special data structures, geographic systems analyses and specific modeling of data for each universe of applications. The architecture can vary since old systems, portable systems in hosts environments until desktops systems, basead in Internet and distributed systems.
