Selvedge denim

Abstract

O Selvedge Denim tem sua origem como um tecido que possui fios de urdume tingidos de azul índigo e os fios da trama cru. E um tecido que possui composição 100% algodão e pode variar em sua titulagem, o mais comum encontrado é o Ne. A tecelagem desse tecido é feita em teares de lançadeira onde em cada passagem da lançadeira o fio sela a borda do tecido criando uma auto borda, ou seja, na língua inglesa selvedge. Este trabalho compreende em realizar uma pequena revisão bibliográfica sobre os processos que envolvem a produção do tecido denim até a tecelagem sendo inevitável discorrer, mesmo que brevemente, sobre alguns fatos históricos que acompanharam a trajetória desse tecido e difundir no âmbito acadêmico o ressurgimento e popularidade do jeans confeccionado pelo autêntico denim de ourela.

Selvedge Denim has its origins as a fabric that has indigo blue dyed warp yarns and raw weft yarns. It is a fabric that has 100% cotton composition and can vary in its titration, the most common found is Ne. The weaving of this fabric is done on shuttle looms where in each passage of the shuttle the thread seals the edge of the fabric creating a self edge, that is, in the English language selvedge. This work comprises carrying out a small bibliographic review on the processes that involve the production of denim fabric until weaving, being inevitable to discuss, even if briefly, some historical facts that accompanied the trajectory of this fabric and to spread in the academic scope the resurgence and popularity of the jeans made from authentic selvedge denim.
