The wild boar (Sus scrofa) is considered one of the most harmful invasive species worldwide, and its establishment in Brazil has generated severe ecological, sanitary, andeconomicchallenges. This study provides a bibliographic review addressing the historical introductionand expansion of the species in the country, its biological characteristics that favor populationgrowth, and the resulting environmental and health impacts. The species affects ecosystemsthrough soil disturbance, competition with native fauna, predation, and damagetoregeneration processes of threatened species such as Araucária angustifólia. Moreover, wildboars act as reservoirs of several pathogens, including rabies virus, Leptospira spp., Brucellaspp., and Mycobacterium bovis, posing risks to human, livestock, and wildlife health. Controlstrategies currently applied in Brazil, such as trapping, firearm hunting, and the useof dogsare examined, highlighting their advantages, limitations, and potential sanitaryrisks. Theresults emphasize that efficient management requires integrated actions supportedbypublicpolicies, continuous monitoring, and increased awareness among hunters andlocalcommunities.pt_BR
