A importância do ZDHC na indústria têxtil

Abstract

A indústria têxtil é um setor importante e global, mas também causa grandes impactos ambientais e sociais. Desde o cultivo das fibras até o acabamento, o uso excessivo de água, energia e produtos químicos gera preocupações sobre poluição da água, emissões de gases e produção de resíduos tóxicos. Por conta disso, há um impulso por práticas mais sustentáveis, levando à criação da iniciativa Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC), que busca acabar com o uso de substâncias químicas perigosas na cadeia têxtil e de calçados. A meta é promover processos mais seguros e limpos, ajudando na sustentabilidade do meio ambiente e na saúde dos trabalhadores. Este trabalho se propõe a investigar quais são os principais benefícios e desafios da implementação da ZDHC na indústria têxtil, considerando seus impactos ambientais, na saúde ocupacional e a viabilidade econômica. O objetivo é analisar a implementação da ZDHC, focando nos benefícios ambientais, na segurança dos trabalhadores e na viabilidade econômica. Para isso, os objetivos específicos incluem estudar o protocolo ZDHC e suas partes, como a Lista de Substâncias Restritas para Manufatura (MRSL) e o ZDHC Gateway; avaliar o impacto ambiental da prática ZDHC, buscando a redução da poluição da água; analisar os benefícios para a saúde dos trabalhadores; investigar os custos e benefícios econômicos da transição para os processos ZDHC.A pesquisa é relevante devido à necessidade de abordar os impactos ambientais da indústria têxtil e proteger a saúde de trabalhadores expostos a produtos perigosos. A adoção de práticas sustentáveis para acessar mercados internacionais exigentes e cumprir com regulamentações ambientais rigorosas. A metodologia incluiu análise documental e revisão de literatura sobre Química Verde, sustentabilidade e economia circular, além de uma comparação da legislação ambiental aplicável. O trabalho é organizado em capítulos que tratam da teoria da indústria têxtil e a ZDHC, com comparações práticas.

Because of this, there is a push for more sustainable practices, leading to the creation of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) initiative, which aims to eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals in the textile and footwear supply chain. The goal is to promote safer and cleaner processes, supporting environmental sustainability and worker health. This study aims to investigate the main benefits and challenges of implementing ZDHC in the textile industry, considering its environmental impacts, occupational health, and economic feasibility. To this end, the specific objectives include studying the ZDHC protocol and its components, such as the Manufacturing Restricted Substances List (MRSL) and the ZDHC Gateway; assessing the environmental impact of ZDHC practices, aiming to reduce water pollution; analyzing the benefits for workers' health; investigating the economic costs and benefits of transitioning to ZDHC processes. The research is relevant due to the need to address the environmental impacts of the textile industry and to protect the health of workers exposed to hazardous substances. The adoption of sustainable practices is necessary to access demanding international markets and comply with strict environmental regulations. The methodology included documentary analysis and literature review on Green Chemistry, sustainability, and circular economy, as well as a comparison of applicable environmental legislation. The thesis is organized into chapters covering the theory of the textile industry and ZDHC, along with practical comparisons.
