Avaliação de três anos de produção da baunilha (Vanilla Planifolia) em cultivo protegido

Abstract

A baunilha é uma planta perene, trepadeira, pertencente à família Orchidaceae, gênero Vanilla, que cresce à sombra em região de clima tropical. Seus frutos possuem a vanilina que confere aroma a planta, largamente utilizada na indústria de bebida, alimentícia, cosmética e farmacêutica, sendo considerada a segunda especiaria mais cara do mundo. Em razão da valorização da baunilha no mercado mundial, visando proporcionar uma alternativa de renda e aumentar o retorno financeiro por hectare, principalmente para pequenos e médios produtores, buscou-se desenvolver um cultivo experimental de baunilha com o objetivo avaliar a viabilidade da sua produção na região de São José do Rio Preto – SP. Devido a exigência da planta por sombreamento foi adotado o sistema de cultivo protegido, utilizando um telado com sombriete 70%. As plantas entraram no início do período reprodutivo, com dois anos e nove meses de idade e atualmente encontra-se no terceiro ano de produção. O presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar os três primeiros anos de produção da baunilha (Vanilla planifolia) em cultivo protegido. Para tanto os dados de produção foram coletados no campo experimental de baunilha, instalado na Etec Padre José Nunes Dias - Monte Aprazível. Foram avaliados: número de plantas em produção; número de inflorescência por planta, número de flores por inflorescência e número de favas por inflorescência e número de favas produzidas. Os dados analisados mostraram um gradativo aumento das variáveis estudadas do primeiro para o terceiro ano de produção. Foi observado que a baunilha apesar de ser uma planta delicada, pois suas hastes quebram com facilidade se mau manuseadas, é bem rustica, de fácil manejo e manutenção e se adaptou às condições edafoclimáticas encontradas na região de São José do Rio Preto. Entretanto o conhecimento básico de práticas de cultivo, florescimento, polinização e colheita da baunilha demanda mais tempo de estudo para se obter melhores resultados.

Vanilla is a perennial, climbing plant belonging to the Orchidaceae family, Vanilla genus, which grows in the shade in tropical climates. Its fruits contain vanillin, which gives the plant its aroma and is widely used in the beverage, food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries, and is considered the second most expensive spice in the world. Due to the appreciation of vanilla in the world market, aiming to provide an alternative source of income and increase the financial return per hectare, especially for small and medium producers, an experimental vanilla crop was developed with the objective of evaluating the viability of its production in the region of São José do Rio Preto - SP. Due to the plant's requirement for shade, a protected cultivation system was adopted, using a screen with 70% shade. The plants entered the beginning of the reproductive period, at two years and nine months of age and are currently in the third year of production. The present study aimed to evaluate the first three years of vanilla (Vanilla planifolia) production in protected cultivation. For this purpose, production data were collected in the experimental vanilla field, installed at Etec Padre José Nunes Dias - Monte Aprazível. The following were evaluated: number of plants in production; number of inflorescences per plant, number of flowers per inflorescence and number of beans per inflorescence and number of beans produced. The analyzed data showed a gradual increase in the variables studied from the first to the third year of production. It was observed that vanilla, despite being a delicate plant, as its stems break easily if poorly handled, is very rustic, easy to manage and maintain and has adapted to the edaphoclimatic conditions found in the region of São José do Rio Preto. However, basic knowledge of cultivation, flowering, pollination and harvesting practices of vanilla requires more study time to obtain better results.
